Souled American

Souled American is a musical act begun in Chicago in late-1986 that played alternative country before that term existed, slowcore before that term existed, and ambient Americana (a term that never existed). Originally a quartet, drummer Jamey Barnard left
in 1992, followed by guitarist Scott Tuma three years later. The founding singer/ songwriters Joe Adducci and Chris Grigoroff remain.
Acclaimed by Jeff Tweedy (as well as John Darnielle, Eric D Johnson, David Lowery, Tim Rutili, among others) they made a bunch of records for Rough Trade in the late 80s-mid 90s. For the last 30 years they’ve been working on their 7th record.

In the last year, they re-emerged to sell out 3 shows at Chicago’s Judson & Moore as well as performances in Madison WI, Columbus OH, Cleveland OH, and two in the Hudson Valley of NY. Omnivore Records has released an anthology of 20 songs drawn from their first 6 records which received a rave review in April’s Uncut Magazine. Their last 2 records were reissued on vinyl, selling over 750 copies in the US from Scissor Tail and in Europe by Aguirre.
